IndiaRAP and partners’ Star Rating and Prioritisation of Blackspots paper published

IndiaRAP and partners’ – Shawon Aziz and Professor P K Sarkar – paper “Rating and Prioritization of Accident Blackspots and Road Safety Measures. Case Study: National Highway-44, India” has been published in a book Recent Advances in Traffic Engineering.

The study paper was presented in the National Conference on Recent Advances in Traffic Engineering (RATE 2018) road safety seminar held 11-12 August 2018 at the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat in Gujarat.

The book comprises select proceedings of the conference with technical papers on the themes of traffic operation control and management, traffic safety and vulnerable road users, and sustainable transportation.

Published by Springer, the book covers a wide range of topics, including advanced traffic data collection methods, big data analysis, mix-traffic characterization and modelling, travel time reliability, scenario of pedestrian and non-motorised vehicles (NMVs) traffic, regional traffic growth modelling, and applications of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in traffic management. It offers up-to-date and practical knowledge on different aspects of traffic engineering useful for students, researchers and practitioners.

Dr. P K Sarkar (Former Professor & HOD), under whose supervision the study was conducted, said, “the findings provide a road map on how to re-engineer these blackspots, prioritize them and help bring down accident rates drastically.“
